Exciting things for 2010

It is with great excitement that the team at RobHedley.com can announce that Rob is currently in talks with Chevron Factory and ABG Motorsport with regard to running the new Chevron GR8 in the both the 2010 British GT and Britcar Championships. Following an initial meeting at the Autosport Show in January, Rob visited the Chevron factory last week to meet up with sporting director Ray Grimes. The initial plan it to drive a factory supported Chevron GR8 run by British GT squad, ABG Motorsport. “This is a very exciting project and born out of a conversation that Ray and I had at the Autosport Show. Having looked over the rolling chassis they had on display at the show, I could see there and then that this was a proper racing car intended to go out and win races” commented Rob. “The initial role of the Car was to compete in its own GR8 race series but seeing the potential in the Car, it would be a shame not to see it compete against other GT Cars and really prove what a good car this will be”.

Chevron Cars have long and distinguished history in both GT and single seater classes and have been driven by some of the racing elite including Niki Lauda, Keke Rosberg and Nelson Piquet Sr. “To be involved with such a prestige marque is a chance of a lifetime and I intend to grab this opportunity with both hands. I was absolutely blown away when I visited the factory and saw the array of original and new Chevron Cars, the history of the brand is fantastic and to see the huge selection of B8s, B16s etc alongside the next step in the Chevron story, the GR8 really was an amazing sight” stated Rob following his visit.

The new GR8 is due to be run by elite British GT squad, ABG Motorsport. Team owner and principal, Peter Hignett was one of the first to see the potential in the new Chevron and committed to it the Monday after the Autosport show. The ABG team have had success in every championship they have entered including one make series such as Fiesta's, Porsche Carrera Cup and British GTs, of which they won in 1998 and last year finishing 5th overall with Aaron Scott and Craig Wilkins. "To get the chance to run such a fantastic Car with such a well known and professional team is an outstanding opportunity and if all goes well we could have a fabulous season" commented Rob. "It looks like a I am in for a busy year in 2010 as I will dovetailing this with driving the Monaro for Lunar Racing".

The Chevron GR8 is due to run in all rounds of the British GT Championship except the first to allow for the Car to be finished without rushing. There are also plans to run the Car in several Britcar rounds including the 24hr race that makes a welcome return to the Britcar Championship in 2010. More updates of the progress will be added on the website so check back soon.
